About Us
Jewellery is about emotion. It can be a gift of love, an object of desire, an heirloom to be passed down to future generations. It’s an expression of self. We delight in creating exquisite pieces that our clients will fall in love with. Each piece of jewellery that comes out of the Scarab Studio is expertly designed and handcrafted to the finest detail. In short, we regard each piece as a work of art.
From humble beginnings in a simple jewellery studio in the arty suburb of Observatory, Cape Town, Scarab Jewellery South Africa has steadily grown to boast a professional on-site workshop and design studios in Cape Town. Our recipe for success is the care and attention we give to our clients, and to each piece of jewellery we create.
The Scarab Brand
The humble dung beetle (scientific name: scarabaeoidea) is Africa’s greatest recycler. The Scarab Jewellery Studio brand embodies the growing trend of “up-cycling” the old into the new. This trend of recycling jewellery by breathing new life into tired and overworked fine jewellery design is one of our specialties. Our talented team of designers and artist goldsmiths melt down your precious metal and then rework the stones into new contemporary art pieces – the jewels of the future.
Meet Janine
Over the last thirty years, Zimbabwean-born artist and jewellery designer Janine Davidson, has attracted a loyal clientele with her exquisitely designed, hand-crafted pieces. Her signature flair for the unusual, combined with classic simplicity and contemporary style has made her one of the leading South African jewellery designers. Janine lives and works in Cape Town, and takes her inspiration from the diverse cultures and vibrant colours and textures that surround her, both in her adopted home and her native land, Zimbabwe. Passionate about the organic nature of gemstones, each piece is carefully designed to enhance the natural beauty of the stone. All her designs are created in precious metals using only the highest quality, accredited, ethically sourced stones from around the world. Under her watchful eye, each piece is hand finished by her carefully selected team of local artisans based at the studio in Cavendish.
